State Congress: Enugu APC assures party faithful of rancour-free exercise

    By October 15, 2021No Comments3 Mins Read

    By Our Reporter

The acting Caretaker Committee Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, Mr Chikwado Chukwunta has assured the party faithful of  a rancour-free state congress.

Chukwunta said this on Friday in Enugu during a stakeholders’ meeting of members of the party in Enugu West Senatorial Zone.

Recall that the party had slated its nationwide state congress for Oct. 16, 2021.

The acting chairman said that all necessary measures had been put in place to ensure that the exercise was not only successful but also peaceful and credible.

He said that his desire was to midwife the election of a state executive that would unite members of the party and lead them  to victory in the 2023 governorship election in the state.

He said that it was gratifying that the chairmanship position of the party in the state had been zoned to Enugu West Senatorial District.

The acting chairman appealed to members of the party from the zone to present a credible candidate based on a consensus arrangement.

Chukwunta said that there had been consultations and horse-trading, adding that he was optimistic that the party would come through the election stronger and poised for greater exploits.

Also, the Chairman of the occasion, Chief Richard Ozobu, said that members of the party in the state had learnt bitter lessons in the past due to failure of leadership.

Ozobu said that the state congress presented a veritable opportunity for them to correct past mistakes by electing credible, trustworthy and responsible leaders.

The APC chieftain advised the delegates not to make the mistake of voting for the wrong candidate as the party chairman.

“History should not repeat itself. We want to present a candidate who is experienced in politics and has force of character and imaginative insight.

“We need a party machinery that will win elections in the state and would not compromise,” Ozobu said.

Also, the former National Vice Chairman of the party, South-East, Chief Emma Enukwu, said that stakeholders of the party from the zone had earlier agreed on presenting a credible consensus candidate.

Enukwu said that the essence of the meeting was to decide on such candidate who would be presented to delegates during the congress.

He advised the three chairmanship aspirants to agree amongst them on whom such candidate would be and make their choice known at the meeting.

Ikengaonline reports that the three candidates that indicated interest to run for the chairmanship position are Messers Walter Oji, John Eneanya and Ugochukwu Agballa.

Ikengaonline, however , further reports that the chairmanship aspirants could not reach a consensus even after Eneanya had stepped down for Agballa as Oji insisted that he must run for the position.
