Enugu Rangers International Football Club on Friday defeated Great Achievers Football Club of Emene 3-1, in a pre-season friendly match played at the Rangers Training Pitch, Enugu.
In-form striker, Julius Ikechukwu, continued his pre-season form when he struck in the 17th minute of the first half to give the flying Antelopes the lead.
The Amateur side fought hard for the equaliser but for the experience of Rangers, they would have gotten it.
Achievers came close to leveling the score in the 20th and 22nd minutes but the brilliance of goalkeeper, Emeka Nwabulu, came in handy, as he did well to keep out two efforts that would have seen the amateur side equalize and even go ahead.
Saidu Adamu nodded home a well-taken corner-kick by diminutive Ejike Uzoenyi in 47th minute for Rangers’ second goal.
Substitute Inemesit Sunday, further extended the lead in the 56th minute after he was set up by Julius Ikechukwu.
Kadiri Danjuma pulled a goal back for the Emene side in the 70th minute from the penalty spot after an Achievers player was adjudged to have been fouled in the box.
There were chances to further punish the armature side but Shedrack Asiegbu’s well-struck half-volley hit the crossbar and bounced back to play while Inemesit Sunday also saw his effort saved on the line by the goalkeeper.
