Inter FC of Ngwo has defeated Purple Krown FC of New Layout 2-0 to win the 2023 edition of Enugu State League.
Ebuka Okeke scored in the 13th minute of the final match played inside Rangers International FC training pitch, Liberty Estate,to put Inter FC on the lead.
Ifeanyi Ogbodo scored the second goal for Inter FC shortly after, to ensure the team went into the break in front foot.
Inter FC came out smoking after the interval, but could not increase the tally.
The result ensured a back-to-back win for Inter FC, which also won the 2022 edition of the state league.
Ikengaonline reports that the league, which started on April 6, featured 13 teams across the state.
Speaking after the match, Inter FC Captain, Okoh Chidera, expressed happiness over the win saying, “I am exited and it was a good game against a strong opponent.”
He said the state league was well-organised in terms of officiating, but needed improvement in the areas of entertainment and awards.
Similarly, the State FA chairman, Tony Ugwu, thanked the board members of the Enugu State Football Association, football enthusiasts and the state’s football fraternity for their support for the association.
“I wish to thank the members of Sports Writer’s Association of Nigeria (SWAN) Enugu Chapter for their encouragement and synergy with the FA.
“This year state league is far better than what we saw in 2022, and we will continue to improve the league in all aspects.
“As for the champions, they are the best and the most well- organised team among the registered teams, that was why they defended the trophy,” Ugwu said.
Inter FC also won the 2022 edition of the league by defeating Flying Angels FC 1-0.
