The police have arraigned three men before an Abakaliki Magistrate Court, Ebonyi State, for allegedly attempting to kill one Mr Marcellinus Chima with gun.
The accused include Michael Nwoja, 71; Nwafor Elube, 48; and Chidi Ogwala, 36.
The defendants were arraigned before Chief Magistrate Ojemba Isu-Oko on two-count charge bothering on conspiracy and murder.
They, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Bassey Okon, told the court that the defendants committed the offences on April 1st at Abiaji Amaezekwe Civil Centre, Ezza South Local Government Area of the state.
Okon told the court that “the offences are punishable under Section 516A (a) of the Criminal Code, Cap. 33, Vol. 1, Law of Ebonyi State of Nigeria, 2009.”
“That you, Michael Nwoja, ‘m’ Nwafor Elube, ‘m’ and Chidi Ogwala, ‘m’ on the aformentioned day, did unlawfully attempted to kill one Mr Marcellenus Chima, ‘m’ with gun butt and six-inches block on his head which caused him harm,” the Prosecutor added.
Mr Peter Igwe, Counsel to the Defendants made an application for bail.
Magistrate Isu-Oko, opposed the bail application for lack of jurisdiction.
Isu-Oko, however, advised the lawyer to apply to a higher court for the bail of the defendants and adjourned the matter until July 7, for further hearing.
