Imo State governorship candidate of the Action Alliance, AA, in the November poll, Major General Jack Lincoln Ogunewe (rtd.), has disowned “unknown individuals” campaigning for him in violation of the the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, guidelines on campaigns.
The retired General who took to his Twitter handle, said he had not authorised or commissioned anybody to campaign for him yet, as doing so now amounts to a violation of electoral guidelines.
He, therefore, urged those behind the action to refrain, and respect the law of the land.
“It has come to my attention that certain individuals and groups, unknown to me, have begun campaigning on my behalf for the upcoming governorship election, despite the fact that the electoral body is yet to authorise any political campaigns.
“I would like to make it clear that I did not authorise these groups, individuals, or their campaign efforts, and I strongly condemn any action that violates the rules and regulations set by the electoral body.
“As a candidate for the Imo State gubernatorial election, I believe in fair and transparent electoral processes that prioritise the interests of the citizens and uphold the integrity of our democracy. Any attempts to undermine these values will not be tolerated.
“Therefore, I urge all citizens to refrain from engaging in any unauthorised campaign activities on my behalf or for any other candidate. Let us all work together to ensure a free, fair, credible, and peaceful election,” Ogunewe tweeted.
