The member representing Zaria Federal Constituency, Tajudeen Abbas, has emerged as the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
He polled a whopping 353 votes to defeat two other contestants – Ahmed Wase and Sani Jaji, who polled three votes each.
Abbas was the preferred choice of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC.
The lawmakers adopted “open declaration ” ballot system in electing their leadership.
Meanwhile, the member representing Bende federal constituency, Abia State, Hon. Benjamin Kalu, was elected Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives unopposed.
Both presiding officers have since been sworn in by the Clerk of the National Assembly, Sani Tambuwal.
