The Anambra State Police Command has threatened to deal decisively with those peddling fake news and videos of old security incidents in the name of insecurity in the state.
According to the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, some persons have resorted to spreading fake news, fake messages and old videos of security incidents in the state in order to instigating fear on the members of the public.
“The Anambra State Police Command today 7/7/2023 has observed with great dismay, the mischievous act of persons sharing false security alerts/messages, and doctored old videos of security incidents to cause tension/panic in the State,” he said.
Ikenga who questioned the agenda for such actions said Police in the state will no longer tolerate such and will “invoke relevant cyber laws on persons found wanting in this regard.”
Speaking further, Ikenga said “the Command has noted that the confidence reposed on us by Ndi Anambra in the protection of lives and properties shall not be taken for granted.”
“The Police with other security forces have intensified patrols, improved security dominance and surveillance in the state.”
Recall that self-acclaimed Biafra agitator, Simon Ekpa, who is based in Finland had said there would be a week-long sit-at-home in Anambra, Enugu, Imo, Ebonyi, and Abia states throughout this week, to protest the continued detention of the Leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPoB), Mazị Nnamdi Kanu, who had been in the detention of the Department of State Service (DSS) since his arrest by the Federal Government.
But Ikenga said despite the announcement from the outlawed group, activities have continued to boom in different parts of the state.
He, however, urged the public to call the Command Control Room Number at 07039194332 or the Public Relations Officer PRO at 08039334002, in the case of emergency or request for security service.
Ikenga said the ‘NPF rescue me app’ is also available for free download on both Android and Apple IOS, for Android and iPhone users respectively.
