Dr. Uchenna Orji, Chairman of Enugu Rangers Supporters Club, has called on the Enugu State Government to appoint capable hands into the positions of General Manager (GM) and Team Manager (TM) for the Club as they prepare for the 2023/24 NPFL.
Orji made the call in Enugu, adding that the absence of GM and TM had adverse effects on the team’s performance last two seasons.
He said the absence of a clear leader in Rangers had adversely affected the team as it did not leave to expectation in the last two seasons.
“The post of the General Manager needs to be urgently filled by a competent and experienced lover of Rangers and not anyhow person.
“The failure to appoint the team manager has also caused a disconnect between the players, the technical team, and the management.
“That is why we have infighting in some areas. We plead with the executive governor of Enugu state to speedily appoint credible and competent people to fill up these very important posts,” he said.
According to him, one cannot compare the time Rangers FC had a GM and the two previous seasons without a GM.
Orji said that the absence of a substantive general manager adversely affected the team both on the pitch and outside the pitch.
The chairman said that Rangers FC survived the league last season without GM and TM due to it’s “Never Say Die,” spirit and with the structure which gives room for division of labour.
“I strongly agree with the assertion of the administrative secretary, If not for the traditional way Rangers do their things and the structure in place, Rangers football club could have been relegated last season.
“No team can survive a season without a GM and TM and playing all their matches away from home, except Rangers FC,” he said.
He said he was an advocate of winning trophies and qualifying for champions league with seasoned players as that was what every team wanted
Orji also said that grassroots harnessing was an additional work to be done by the coach, through the junior team and the club scouts.
