President Bola Ahmed Tinubu , on Friday appointed Olayemi Cardoso as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN.
The appointment which is coming barely 100 days after Tinubu’s swearing in, is for a term of five years at the first instance.
His appointment, is however, to be confirmed by the Senate.
The appointment of the new CBN boss was contained in a statement signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ajuri Ngelale.
“This directive is in conformity with Section 8(1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007, which vests in the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the authority to appoint the Governor and four Deputy Governors for the Central Bank of Nigeria, subject to confirmation by the Senate of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” the statement said.
President Tinubu also approved the nomination of four new Deputy Governors of the apex bank for a term of five years at the first instance, pending their confirmation by the Senate.
The new nominees include Mrs. Emem Usoro, Mr. Muhammad Dattijo, Mr. Philip Ikeazor, and Dr. Bala M. Bello.
