Stephen Ukandu, Umuahia
The Management of Geometric Power Plant Aba, has finally spoken up on the raging controversy over the actual stake of Abia State Government in the $800 power plant.
Recall that Chief John Okiyi Kalu, former Commissioner for Information during the administration of the immediate-past Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu, had claimed that Ikpeazu invested 5% equity in the project.
But Mr Ferdinand Ekeoma, the Media Adviser to the incumbent Gov. Alex Otti, in a swift response, said there was no documents before his Principal that Ikpeazu made such investment.
He challenged the former Governor and his men to back up their claims with evidence.
Ekeoma who said there was no record in the handover note by the former Governor to Otti authenticating such investment.
Meanwhile, the Public Relations Officer, PRO of the Geometric Power Plant, Mr Chijioke Ogbodo, has cleared the air over the controversy, saying that “Abia State Government has 3½% equity” in the $800 power plant.
Ogbodo made the clarification on Sunday when contacted on the matter.
Geometric Power Plant Aba, the largest single investment in the South East, is expected to generate 188 megawatts.
While 100 megawatts will be distributed to Aba and its environs, 88 megawatts will be exported to the national grid.
