As the political crisis in Rivers State assumed a dangerous dimension, youths loyal to Gov. Siminalayi Fubara, Tuesday, pulled down the statue of the former Governor and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Mr Nyesom Wike.

The youths chanting anti-Wike songs destroyed the statue and declared their allegiance to Gov. Fubara.

This is as youths of Eleme Local Government Area took over the premises of the Council headquarters.

They said they were complying with the directive of the Governor for former Council Chairmen whose tenure had elapsed to vacate office.

The irate youths declared that “Governor Fubara is the only authority” they know.

The pro-Fubara youths stormed the council secretariat after the governor’s statewide broadcast directing Heads of Local Government Administration to take over the leadership of the 23 LGAs in the state.

They marched round the council premises stating that they would not allow anyone take away what belonged to the council.

One of the youths was quoted as saying: “All of them have disappeared, because we have come to take over. The governor is the power that we know. We have taken over Eleme. Total take over.

“The governor is the power we know, there is no other power. We have taken over Eleme. Eleme is taken. Their tenure has elapsed they should go home.”
