Nigeria booked their place in the semifinals of the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) with a confident 2–0 victory over Algeria in an almost one-sided quarterfinal encounter on Saturday night.
The Super Eagles delivered a disciplined and clinical performance, striking twice in the second half to overwhelm a lacklustre Algerian side that struggled to maintain possession throughout the match. After a series of missed chances in the first half, Nigeria opened the scoring shortly after the restart when Victor Osimhen powered home a pinpoint header in the 47th minute, following a superb wing play by Bruno Onyemaechi.
Osimhen later turned provider, setting up Akor Adams for Nigeria’s second goal. Adams calmly rounded Algerian goalkeeper Zidane before slotting the ball into the net, after fine build-up play by Alex Iwobi.
Despite a late push from Algeria, Nigeria remained firmly in control and saw out the match with composure, much to the delight of their supporters in the stands.
The victory sends Nigeria into the AFCON semifinals and keeps alive their hopes of lifting the continental trophy for the fourth time. The Super Eagles will now face host nation Morocco in a semifinal clash scheduled for Wednesday, January 14, 2026, in Rabat.
