Ike Nnachi, Abakaliki The candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), in the Saturday’s Ebonyi South Senatorial bye-election, Prof. Anthony Ani, has been announced winner of the poll. Ani won with 46,270 votes, defeating his closest rival, Ifeanyi Eleje of APGA who garnered 3,513. Silas Onu of the PDP polled 2,783 votes and Mr Linus Okorie of the LP scored 2,710 votes in the election. Stephen Ukandu, Umuahia Electricity Consumers of Nigeria (ECAN), South East zonal chapter, has accused those it described as “mortal enemies” of the geopolitical zone, of sabotaging the takeoff of the Geometric Power plant in the Osisioma Industrial Estate in Aba, Abia State. Ben Ezechime, Enugu Heavy protest has rocked the ongoing conduct of the re-run election holding in Enugu South Urban State constituency by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Members of the Labour Party, who converged at the Robinson Primary School, Uwani and Uwani Secondary School venues of the election, raised an alarm and alleged that the election umpire failed to present original result sheets for the election. Lawrence Nwimo, Awka Voters in the rerun elections for Orumba North/South Federal Constituency and Nnewi North/South/Ekwusigo Federal Constituency, Anambra State, have called for the extension of voting time in the ongoing election in the state. According to the voters, INEC should extend the voting time to 4pm because of the late arrival of voting materials. Ike Nnachi, Abakaliki Security agents from Nigerian Army on Saturday arrested two persons in Afikpo Local Government Area on the day of Ebonyi South Senatorial bye-election. One of the arrested persons, a youth Leader in the area, Obila Ojo, was picked up at night in his residence. Twice a military convoy stopped journalists and refused them passage for more than 40 minutes each.
