    Uzodimma demands reform of IMSU

    EditorBy EditorMarch 27, 2025Updated:March 27, 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

    Ugo Nosiri, Owerri

Imo State Governor, Senator Hope Uzodimma, has called for a complete overhaul of Imo State University’s (IMSU) Administrative processes, particularly through Automation and Computerisation.

Governor Uzodimma made the call when the Governing Council of IMSU, led by its Chairman, Reverend Father Philip Ogbonna, visited him at the Government House.

The governor also called for urgent reforms at Imo State University (IMSU) to combat corruption, enhance efficiency, and revamp the Institution’s operations.

He stressed that accurate Data Management and System Integrity are crucial to restoring the University’s credibility and efficiency.

“We must ensure that the University Operates with transparency and accountability. I will not support any measures that drain government revenue. Instead, we must embrace sustainable funding models,” the Governor declared.

He urged the University’s Management to develop a comprehensive work plan that identifies and tackles key challenges, particularly in Academics, Administration, and Infrastructure.

According to him, a thorough review of the University’s curriculum is necessary to produce graduates who are competitive in the labour market.

Governor Uzodimma proposed a business-oriented yet socially responsible model to manage the University, suggesting that IMSU explores Public Private Partnerships (PPPs) to improve funding and service delivery.

He called on the Governing Council to work closely with the School Management in implementing strategic changes to boost overall institutional performance.

“Let us have a better plan. Let us streamline the Admission process. Why should we admit students without ensuring they have the resources and opportunities needed to succeed? If departments are not authorised to admit, why are they doing so? These are the issues we must address,” the Governor stated.

He further highlighted the moral decay within the Institution, stressing the need for ethical leadership and renewed commitment from all stakeholders to rebuild the University’s reputation.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, the Chairman of IMSU’s Governing Council, Reverend Father Philip Ogbonna, acknowledged the University’s many challenges and called for swift interventions in key areas.

Father Ogbonna listed some of the key areas as Accreditation of the College of Medicine and the College of Engineering, Staff Promotions, Welfare, and Employment Opportunities and Infrastructure Development, particularly in Engineering, Computer Science, Agriculture, and Mass Media.

The Reverend Father admitted that IMSU is in a state of crisis and requires a new mindset and direction to regain its lost glory.

“Since our inauguration on January 31, 2025, we have been working tirelessly to set IMSU on the right path. However, one thing is clear – without a complete reorientation, the University cannot move forward,” he asserted.
